About Leda

Leda was launched October 12, 1949 in Auckland, New Zealand.  Since 1990 she has had a home in Juneau, Alaska, USA.  This site is an effort to tell her story.

Leda’s Particulars:

  • LOA:  53′-10″
  • LWL:  35′ 
  • Beam:  11′- 2″
  • Draught:  7′- 6″
  • Displacement:  29,000 lbs.
  • Outside Ballast:  13,000 lbs.
  • Sail area as designed:  750 sq. ft.  (This figure is according to the lines drawings.  I believe that rigged with twin head sails she probably carried closer to 1000 sq. ft.)
  • Sail area currently:  1148 sq. ft. (Main plus roller furling Genoa), Additionally she carries a 160 sq. ft. Stays’l,  and a 1419 sq. ft. Asymmetrical Spinnaker

She is presently owned by Russ Senkovich and Ginny Conrad.
